Autumn In Didsbury

We’ve had a pretty dreadful summer, here in the UK in terms of weather, with torrential rain, floods and a generally depressing outlook that drove me abroad for my summer break.
And now the summer has gone, all we have to look forward to is cold weather, more rain and short days.
However, occasionally, the weather surprises me.  Autumn in the UK can be beautiful particularly on a bright day. Today has been such a day. I opened the curtains this morning and saw a clear blue cloud free sky with sunshine all around.
Mrs PM and I decided to go for a walk to make the most of this beautiful day. The temperature was agreeable too – a pleasant 15 °C, nice enough to resurrect my summer coat, possibly for the last time this year.
The leaves are now changing colour shortly before the trees shed them for the winter and the sunshine enhances the tones making a pleasant walk just that bit more special.
I would like to share that with you, dear reader, to prove that sometimes, on the odd occasion, we can have a delightful day in England.
Care to join us for a walk around Didsbury? Come on then - let's go.
First of all, here is proof that autumn is indeed upon us:

The squirrels are out in force in Didsbury Park, collecting nuts for winter - even checking the bins:

The colours of the trees in Fletcher Moss are wonderful:

Here's a nice path through the woods:

It's still a bit wet from the summer rain, but the reflections in the water are nice:

More beautiful trees by the River Mersey:

It really is sunny - and my shadow makes me look a lot taller:

Time for a pint before getting home?

Sadly - no! I'm on call.
Oh well, maybe next time.

  2. Hi Grace,

Also, on the way to work, I drive next to a park on a road that is lined with trees that are golden at this time of year.

It's a terrific sight and one day I will take a photo to share it with the world.

  5. PM - On Friday, it was the same way but with the warm weather and the earlier twilight, the sky was a beautiful purple. Walking through the village in Manchester CC with all these conflicting signs of the seasons, warm weather, earlier nightfall and the bronze/honey leaves on the ground was a really beautiful sight.

  6. I think I would love to walk through those woods and beside the Mersey, the colours of the trees are just beautiful.
We have sunny blue skies here too now, but warming up instead of cooling down, so all our trees are green.

  7. Hi MoM,

I'll bet it was a fab sight. The sun going down enhances the colours. Sadly I missed being outside on Friday evening.

  8. Hi River,

I wish it was warming up here. I'm not a fan of winter at all.

  9. Your post fits the weather we're having here today. The trees are really beautiful this year.

I miss the English autumn and frosty days, well they are nice to look at.

  10. Hi Anji,

I'll bet its slightly warmer where you are.

It's pleasant at the moment - bit I'm not a big fan of frost - and apparently it is due to arrive at the end of the week.

  11. Dearest PM -

Cool photos! Good to see a beautiful day over there with lovely trees too. I just posted a silly shadow on my blog and it made me laugh when I saw yours. I didn't realize the River Mersey ran all the way over there, or am I totally confused? I'll have to drag Mark to Fletcher Moss next time I'm there since I love parks and getting away from the city.

  12. Hi Lynette,

The River Mersey runs through Stockport and Disbury and reaches the coast at Liverpool where it is at its widest and most famous :-)

When "Ferry Across The Mersey" was written by Gerry and the Pacemakers, they weren't talking about Didsbury.
