After yet another frustrating day at the office, I was full of road rage on the way home. Thankfully, a song popped up on my mp3 player that eroded that anger and allowed me to drive the rest of the way home in peace and harmony with the rest of the world. The song was "I WIsh I Could Fly" by Roxette.
As I drove, I thought about other songs that have the same effect and have compiled a list of twenty from my collection that may well succeed in changing you from a fiery ball of rage into a chilled-out mellow ball of fluff. Here they are:
(1) Roxette – I Wish I Could Fly
(2) 10CC – I’m Not In Love
(3) Seal – Kiss From A Rose
(4) Air – All I Need
(5) China Crisis – Wishful Thinking
(6) David Gray – This Year’s Love
(7) Depeche Mode – Home
(8) Madonna – The Power Of Goodbye
(9) Tears For Fears – Listen
(10) Shakespears Sister – Hello (Turn Your Radio On)
(11) Enya – Caribbean Blue
(12) Richard Marx - Hazard
(13) Air – La Femme d’Argent
(14) Enya – Lothlórien
(15) Fleetwood Mac – Albatross
(16) Morcheeba – The Sea
(17) Kate Bush – The Man With The Child In His Eyes
(18) Madonna – Frozen
(19) Massive Attack - Teardrop
(20) Moby - Porcelain
For those who have heard or read about me singing the praises of rock and heavy metal, you may be surprised by some of the choices above. Hopefully it reveals another (weird) side of me and confirms that my taste isn’t limited to loud guitar music.
By the way, you can find most if not all of the above songs on YouTube. I would encourage you to seek them out; I think you’ll like them. If you have any similar songs that you think I might like please let me know – I’m always on the lookout for new music.

Pretty cool choice, what about other musical styles? classical, jazz, chalga etc. Lots of different music around the world other than western based 'pop' (I use the word pop very losely you understand)
ReplyDeleteHi Martin,
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of jazz to be honest but I do like classical music( I'm planning a future post about it actually).
I've not heard of chalga but will have a look - defined as "Bulgarian folk music" on wikipedia so I guess you get to hear it a lot. I will check it out.

Are u a Madonna fan too? There are 2 Madonna songs in your list.I prefer Shout better than Wishful Thinking. And I think Depeche Mode 's People are People is awesome.
ReplyDeleteHow bizarre - Roxette's "I Wish I Could Fly" chills you out, yet Keith Harris's version of the song makes me want to kill someone. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteHi Bingkee,
ReplyDeleteNo - I'm not really a fan of Madonna. But I do love the album "Ray Of Light". Mrs PM is a huge fan and has paid a fortune to see here in Manchester later this year - I would have gone just out of interest but it was far too expensive for me.
Depeche Mode are a great band. I too like "People Are People" - great song.
:-)

Hi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteLOL - I know exactly what you mean about the Keith Harris version.
It has the same effect on me too.

Holy cow (and hi!) PM,
ReplyDeleteDo you know how long I've spent on Playlist listening to these??? Once I started, I had to finish the whole list---I'm now so mellow I'm numb. :o|
Love the list. Ashamed to admit though, that I always thought "I'm Not In Love" was by Paul McCartney & Wings---same sound or something. And Teardrop---House theme! I'd never heard the complete music. And I LOVE Porcelain, but didn't know who sang it. So, thanks!
You know, I think this post could also be titled "The Softer Side of PM" :o)
Hi Holly,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the songs in the list and even happier you took the time to check them out. There are others but I wanted to restrict it to 20 (for now).
I didn't know that Teardrop was the theme to "House". I was actually going to write a post about Hugh Laurie sometime because he's been famous in the UK for ages, and its incredible that he's done so well over there.
It is the softer side of PM (he says listening to "The Day That Never Comes" by Metallica)
:-)
Cheers
